Growing the Profession

Jon Beckmann

IPRF Scholarship Committee Chair

The Illinois Park & Recreation Foundation prides itself on giving back to the profession. I am excited to serve as the new chair of IPRF's Scholarship Committee. My goal is to assist IPRA members to get the education, training, and networking they need to flourish in their career. The scholarship program creates opportunities and builds connections between peers that last a lifetime.

The scholarships are available for both students and professionals. Applying has never been easier. We do require scholarship recipients to submit testimonials, and you may have noticed some of our success stories on social media. You can follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

As the Foundation and Scholarship Program continue to grow, we aim to serve members at all stages of their career. We encourage members to think about opportunities for their peers and staff. Together we strengthen the profession and help our communities thrive.

IPRF Sponsors 2026 DEI Institute

The Illinois Park & Recreation Foundation is proud to continue to sponsor the IPRA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Institute every year. The DEI Institute continues to serve as one of IPRA's professional development opportunities, reinforcing the association's commitment to fostering inclusive leadership, equitable service delivery, and a sense of belonging for all Illinois residents.

The 2026 IPRA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Institute brought together park and recreation professionals from across Illinois for a day of learning, reflection, and practical application focused on building more inclusive organizations and communities. The Institute provided participants with opportunities to explore emerging issues related to diversity, equity, accessibility, belonging, and cultural responsiveness while engaging in meaningful dialogue with peers and subject matter experts.

Through interactive presentations, facilitated discussions, and real-world case studies, attendees examined strategies for creating welcoming environments, reducing barriers to participation, strengthening organizational culture, and ensuring that park and recreation services reflect the diverse communities they serve. The Institute emphasized moving beyond awareness to action, equipping professionals with tools and resources they can immediately apply within their agencies.
