The Hidden Budget Leak: Understanding Technology Spend in Public AgenciesPark district leaders have enough on their plates without spending time dissecting phone bills, internet contracts, wireless spend, and cloud services. The challenge is that technology expenses are often some of the least understood line items in a public agency budget. Vague billing statements. Services get added or changed. Complex contracts renew. Before long, organizations are spending more than they realize without anyone intentionally making that decision. This session provides a practical look at how technology spending works, where public agencies commonly overspend, and a few simple questions leaders can ask to make sure they're getting the value they need. No technical background required. Just a straightforward conversation about an area of the budget that can be a blind spot and can have a meaningful financial impact.
A Digital Accessibility RoadmapThis high-level session presents a strategic overview of digital accessibility for Park District staff, focusing on a compliance deadline of April 26, 2028, and key requirements of WCAG 2.1 Level AA. It outlines the roles of content creation and IT enforcement, the audit approach, and the implementation of ADA-compliant templates. Key challenges, such as PDF remediation and video accessibility, will also be discussed.
