Hosted by IPRA's Facility Management (FM) Section, the 2026 Aquatics Symposium offers a full day of professional development focused on the challenges, innovations, and opportunities facing today's aquatic facilities. The program opens with a featured keynote, "Drowning Resuscitation Updates", presented by internationally recognized drowning expert Dr. Justin Sempsrott, who will share the latest evidence-based practices in drowning response, early ventilation, and emergency preparedness. Through real-world case studies and practical insights, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of life-saving response strategies and emerging trends in aquatic safety.
Throughout the day, participants can choose from educational sessions covering rescue training, aquatic programming and facility sustainability, water quality and maintenance, risk management, and aquatic safety planning. Attendees will also have a unique opportunity to get in the pool and participate in a hands-on in-service session designed to strengthen practical skills and reinforce best practices in aquatic operations and safety. During lunch, participants can visit the vendor expo hall to connect with industry partners, explore new products and services, and discover innovative solutions for aquatic facilities.
The symposium concludes with the inspiring keynote panel, "Started in Aquatics - Now We're Here!", featuring experienced park and recreation leaders who began their careers as lifeguards, swim instructors, and aquatic staff before advancing into leadership roles across the profession.
Come join fellow aquatic professionals from across Illinois for a day of learning, networking, and inspiration, and leave with practical insights and new connections to help strengthen your aquatic programs, facilities, and teams.
