Mental Health First Aid Training - Youth

Thursday, March 12, 2026 (9:00 AM - 2:30 PM) (CDT)

Description

MHFA is an evidence-based public education program designed to impart invaluable skills for assisting someone in the midst of a mental health crisis. It goes beyond awareness, focusing on practical techniques that can bridge the gap until professional help arrives. Imagine the impact if responding to a mental health crisis becomes as commonplace as administering CPR during a cardiac emergency.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training is an early intervention program that teaches adults to recognize youth mental health or substance use signs, listen without judgment, offer reassurance, and guide them to professional help. It prepares adults working with ages 12–18 to support youth in need.

Who Should Attend:  Park and recreation, conservation, and forest preserve district professionals who work directly with the public. Whether you're supervising staff, engaging with patrons, or leading community programs, you'll gain practical tools to support individuals in crisis, reduce stigma, and foster a culture of mental wellness in your workplace and community.

How Blended MHFA Works: Participants will complete 2 hours of online self-paced coursework followed by a scheduled 5-hour, in-person, instructor-led class.
