Youth & Day Camp Committee Meeting (TR)

Description

Located within IPRA's Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Section, the Youth & Day Camp Committee consists of a group of professionals that either specialize or work in and around camps at special recreation agencies.  If you are interested in joining the committee or simply wish to attend for educational and networking purposes, you are encouraged to register.

For our November meeting, we’ll focus on Winter Break Camps and how we structure these programs across our different organizations.  We’ll have an opportunity to compare what everyone is currently doing, share ideas, and discuss ways to make Winter Break Camps engaging, manageable, and successful for both participants and staff.

Topics for discussion will include: winter break vamp structure and schedules across organizations, field trip and outing ideas, staying within budget while still providing fun and engaging experiences, backup plans for weather and unexpected changes, staffing models — are camps primarily staffed by full-time staff, returning college students, seasonal staff, or a combination?, strategies for recruiting and retaining Winter Break Camp staff, teen enrollment and engagement — are you seeing an increase in teen participation at your organization?, what programs, activities, or approaches have been successful in engaging teens?, questions, challenges, and best practices to share with the group.

Please come prepared to share how your organization approaches Winter Break Camps, what has worked well, and any challenges or questions you’d like the group to discuss. We’re looking forward to another great opportunity to learn from one another!
