The Risk Management Committee within the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association (IPRA) Administration & Finance section is proud to host the second IPRA Safety Committee Workshop on October 24, 2025, at the Carol Stream Park District.

This one-day program is designed for anyone interested in enhancing safety in parks and recreation. The workshop features the keynote presentation, Leading Through Crisis by Brian Romes, Executive Director of the Park District of Highland Park, which will empower attendees to lead with a trauma informed lens after he discusses his first-hand account after the July 4, 2022 Highland Park Mass Shooting.  

Attendees can pick and choose breakout sessions that best fits their personal and professional development needs. Topics range from security camera best practices, creating proactive safety recognition programs, facility hardening and preparedness, Workers Compensation, ADA and FMLA legalities and creating a positive safety culture! The event will also feature a Vendor Expo, bustling with businesses and resources tailored for Risk Management professionals.

Who Should Attend: New and seasoned professionals in the park and recreation, and forest preserve district that work in safety and risk management, are part of their agency Safety Committee or anyone looking to enhance their knowledge of safety best practices and improve safety awareness within their agencies.

Food / Beverage:  Registration includes breakfast and lunch. Dietary restrictions should be indicated on the registration form.

Deadline/Cancellations: The registration deadline is October 17. Refunds will be issued to requests received on or before October 17 less a 20% administrative fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received after that date.

CEUs:  Program is approved for 0.4 CEUs and will be awarded to those in attendance for the full day towards CPRP and CPRE Certifications.
