The Forest Preserve and Conservation (FPC) Section consists of professionals that either specialize or work in and around forest preserves and/or conservation. We will discuss section business, and then hear from speaker Michael Shannon in his session, Smart Hiring: Recruiting and Retaining Seasonal and Part-Time Talent. If you are interested in joining the section or simply wish to attend for educational and networking purposes, you are encouraged to register.

Presentation Description: This session is designed to support managers in developing effective strategies for recruiting and hiring seasonal and part-time employees. It will examine the evolving dynamics of engaging younger generations in the workforce, including what motivates them and how to foster enthusiasm for their roles. Participants will also explore the best practices for employee retention, with a focus on encouraging staff to return for subsequent seasons.
Key topics will include distinguishing between hard and soft skills, methods for identifying these competencies during the interview process, and techniques for making well-informed hiring decisions. While the session is tailored for newer managers, it offers valuable insights for professionals at all levels.
Learning Objectives:
- Develop effective strategies for recruiting and hiring seasonal and part-time employees, with a focus on engaging younger generations.
