Forest Preserve & Conservation Symposium

Forest Preserve & Conservation Symposium

Thursday, May 15, 2025 (9:30 AM - 3:15 PM) (CDT)

Description

Hosted by IPRA's Forest Preserve & Conservation (FPC) Section, this full-day program is designed to offer enriching professional development and meaningful networking opportunities for those working in conservation, education, and recreation.

The day will begin with an inspiring field session, “Restoring Aquatic Ecosystems,” led by Scott Meister of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. Participants will enjoy a walk-and-talk tour of the Spring Brook restoration site, where they’ll learn about innovative stream restoration techniques, freshwater mussel reintroduction efforts, and how this project fits into a larger vision for regional waterway health.

After lunch, we’ll dive into “Partnering with SRAs,” an informative and practical session focused on building inclusive outdoor programs through collaboration with Special Recreation Associations. Using DuPage’s Rich Laren Outdoor Education Day as a case study, presenters will share real-world strategies for improving accessibility and creating welcoming experiences for all visitors.

The afternoon will wrap up with an awards presentation and a casual social gathering—perfect for connecting with peers, sharing ideas, and celebrating the impactful work happening across our field. Come spend the day gaining fresh insights, exchanging best practices, and recharging your passion for parks and conservation!
