Lunch & Learn: Managing Canada Geese in Illinois Parks: Possible, Practical, or Necessary?

Lunch & Learn: Managing Canada Geese in Illinois Parks: Possible, Practical, or Necessary?

Tuesday, February 11, 2025 (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (CST)

Description

While we all know that Canada Geese are protected, we are also aware of the pollution the Geese create and the public nuisance they can be. Being protected, the Canada Geese population is already at high levels, and is increasing yearly. This translates into a high amount of turf destruction and pollution, along with increased aggression during mating season; aspects of Canadian Geese that are not desirable and need to be managed in safe, humane ways.

Here in Illinois many Canada Geese are no longer migrating North in the Summer, or South in the Winter, but staying as Resident Geese. This has created new problems that may require management beyond just tolerating their visits in the Fall and Spring.

Join us to learn practical, proven methods for managing Canada Geese while keeping parks clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.

Registration deadline is Monday, February 10, 12:00 p.m. CST.

Who Should Attend: Professionals that oversee facilities, turf fields, and outdoor spaces and are looking for practical, humane solutions to geese management while maintaining compliance with wildlife protection regulations.
