Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a public education program that teaches how to recognize and respond to mental health problems or crises. Originating in Australia in 2000, MHFA has spread to over 25 countries. The evidence-based course has proven effective through various evaluations. Introduced in the U.S. in 2008 for adults and in 2012 for youth, MHFA continues to adapt and grow to meet the needs of the population.
